Asus ZenFone Zoom S Review

As a result, the Asus ZenFone Zoom S is a smartphone model with talented features. But the price is high in our opinion. Now you can find Zoom S’i at the price of 2499 TL on the market. Yes, camera skills are important. Of course, having a double rear camera may have placed it somewhere else in the ZenFone family, but the only dual camera phone in the market is not Zoom S. There are plenty of alternatives in this regard. They even include flagship models. In this sense, Asus will be competitive if it lowers the price of the Zoom S a bit, but it is difficult to do so.

Users who like the Asus ZenFone line and want to use the dual camera capabilities on the phone can evaluate the Zoom S.

We have thoroughly reviewed ZenFone Zoom S, the phone that plays Asus’ photography capabilities!

Asus, with the ZenFone family, the world as a whole is attracting a lot of attention, especially by users in our country. It is also very effective to make phones with a capacity to satisfy the users especially with technical staff and to choose relatively competitive prices for the competitor models on the other hand. The model in our hand is a new member of the ZenFone family. Are they as successful as others; Do users offer features that will satisfy you? In this review we will try to find answers to these questions.

First of all, I have to say that; ZenFone Zoom S has actually been seen before as ZenFone 3 Zoom. But wisdom, the phone is not that name, ZenFone Zoom S came out as a confrontation. Both phones have the ZE553KL model number, but apparently the Asus team found this phone suited as a Zoom S in our country.

If this is going to leave an edge, it is especially focusing on photography skills, as can be understood from the phone’s name. It features a double rear camera and features some features, while the segment finds itself among middle-class phones. Now let’s start with the design of the phone without extending the word further.

design

Asus ZenFone Zoom S Review

The Zoom S has the same design details as the latest dual-camera phones. The two side-by-side lenses on the rear are undoubtedly the largest indicator of this, but not only that; The Zoom S, quite similar to the rear view of the Huawei P10, shows us this with antenna stripes. It should be said that the fingerprint sensor in the middle is reminiscent of the Huawei P9. The lines that soften and roll around the edges, also reminiscent of the Xiaomi Mi 6. We do not say all these things to make phone calls; especially in the Zoom S. Lightweight sandy aluminum matte finish, rounded edges and 2.5D glass cut on the screen make the phone look good.

The thickness of the phone is 7.9 mm. But with rounded edges, therefore, the phone is wrapped in a thinner profile. Let’s also say that the Zoom S is 170 grams in weight.

Zoom S, available in black at our disposal, is also available in silver and gold. In the meantime, let’s also say that this model is showing double SIM card support.

If you want to look around the phone right away, we see the sound and power buttons on the right side, the speaker on the bottom, the 3.5 mm headphone jack and USB Type-C slot, and the SIM card and microSD card drawer on the left.

Display and operating system

Asus ZenFone Zoom S Review

Zoom S’s screen is 5.5 inches in size. The screen offers full HD resolution, with a brightness of 500 nits, giving a brilliant brightness. On the other hand, we have a very good color distribution. Of course, it is a big advantage that the screen is preferred since AMOLED panel. Those who love watching video and movies on the phone will be pleased with deep blacks and rich saturated colors. On the other hand, it is also necessary to emphasize the fact that, in the point of view of normal use, the appearance of the views and the outward appearance of the display on the outdoors. In the meantime, as a screen protection, let’s look at our adding and operating system to our words of Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

In Zoom S we see Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow as the operating system. According to the consensus, the Zoom S will receive Android 7.1.1 Nougat update soon. That’s why you do not have to worry about it.

The interface is the same as ZenUI 3.0, as we were seeing in Asus’s previous ZenFone 3 phone models. The easy-to-use ZenUI interface offers a rich shortcut menu when you pull the screen from the top; and when you take it, it brings useful options. From here you can change the theme, access the application and window properties.

There are handy applications that come built into the phone. These include the Laser Ruler, which measures distance using the phone’s camera, the Mobile Manager, where you can analyze the phone, and ZenFit, a fitness application. But it’s a pity that you can not get some of them off the phone.

Camera

The most important feature of Zoom S is undoubtedly the camera. The Zoom S, with its dual rear camera, uses a 12 MP + 12 MP dual lens. When one of these uses the Sony IMX362 sensor, it comes with a f / 1.7 diaphragm. The 25 mm main lens also has a 4-axis optical image stabilizer.

The second camera on the back has a focal length of 59 mm and a f / 2.8 aperture. Together with this camera, there is no doubt that you can take a deep photo called Bokeh. However, you are waiting for a while when you take a photo in depth mode and then prepare a photo. On the Huawei P9, we do not encounter such a waiting period. On the other hand, there is a waiting period while the focal point changes after taking the photograph.

Another feature brought by Zoom S’s cameras is the 2.3x optical zoom capability that gives the phone its name. The 2.3x optical zoom and 12x digital zoom make it possible to capture good images, especially in daytime, with contrast ratio and light balance. However, as the light rate drops, you are faced with grains in the zigzag squares.

Zoom S, 4-axis optical image stabilizer and laser focusing, which we think you’ll love video capability, can also make 4K video recording. 1080p has 60 frames of video recording; At 4K, you can get 24 frames.

The front camera also has a 13 MP Sony IMX214 sensor. 1080p video recording with f / 2.0 aperture is also offered in this camera.

No matter which camera you use in Zoom S, you have a lot of options. We recommend using the manual mode to force the phone’s camera capabilities. However, even if you do not do very well in this regard, many modes will help you. These include HDR Pro, Super Resolution, Night, Field Depth, GIF Animation, Fast and Slow Capture modes.

If the phone will pick up the quality of the picture, we can say that it gives very good results. We got good results for most of the photographs we took, especially for the category of contrast and color balance. For the price range we can say that those who would prefer the Zoom S for their camera capabilities will be pleased.

Technical staff and performance

Zoom S has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 processor. We saw and reviewed Moto Z Play, Lenovo P2 and even ZenFone 3 in the seat, which is categorized as middle to upper segment. In that sense, we can say that the capacity of the phone as performance is roughly equivalent to these phones. We say that, because the price of the phone and the technical staff it offers and its reflection on performance, obviously puts the phone into a very controversial spot. We will talk about this in a little while.

The Zoom S has 4 GB of RAM. The storage capacity of the Zoom S is also 64 GB. It is possible to increase this area by 256GB more microSD card.

Another important point on the phone is the battery capacity; where we see a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh. Again, we will talk about how soon the phone can handle the battery life.

The graphics processor in the phone is the Adreno 506. With that and other technical features, game lovers will be pleased. At the Alto’s Adventure, the Zoom S, with 60 frames per second performance, was able to perform smoothly when we tried FIFA Mobile.

Zoom S also did not compare us with any delays, hangs, or freezes during the time we examined, during application passes, and during general use. It was very fast when performing tasks such as navigating through web pages, and on the other hand, the camera startup time was also quite fast.

Let’s talk briefly about the synthetic test results we have received and go to the price / performance evaluation. At the AnTuTu Benchmark we received 57679 points. Again in GeekBench 4, Zoom S, which we got 862 on a single core and 4230 on a multi-core, could also collect 13900 points on the 3DMark Benchmark.

When we look at these results, we have to say that there are a lot of competitors in the face of Zoom S, and these competitors can be found at a much more affordable price. Here we can see Moto Z Play, Lenovo P2, ZenFone 3 and Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) models.

Yes, the Zoom S may be different in the ZenFone family in photography as it is in a separate place, but the price is obviously expensive. The Zoom S is available for sale at a price of $ 2499. In this sense, we must accept that the price is quite high. Let’s just say: The Moto Z, which is in the status of the flagship, can be found around 1900 TL, while the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Samsung Galaxy S7 can be purchased for 2300 TL.

Battery life

The Zoom S has a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh. Yes, there is a large battery in the phone, and the fact that it’s available within 7.9 mm is a crucial detail. As for the battery performance, it will be very positive. Because if you are someone who does not drop the phone from your hand, the Zoom S will meet your expectation in this direction. That is: In our 3-day usage scenario where the camera was used more than an hour and we were surfing the internet, we had roughly 15% of the battery power. On the other hand, in our 90-minute HD video test, we lost 10 percent. So, after 1.5 hours of video playback, the battery charge rate on the phone was still 90 percent.

When the battery is exhausted, Zoom S, which we see charging 11 percent in 15 minutes, can fill up the entire battery in roughly 1.5 hours.
