Sony Xperia XZ Premium Review

As a result, TopLarsak, XZ Premium finds itself among the top segment smartphones. Yes, the impressive 4K display and top performance make it an important model. Besides, the ability to record 960 frames in good light conditions, its outstanding features.

  • Performance
  • Stereo speaker
  • Great screen
  • 960 frames of video in good lighting conditions
  • Good light front & rear camera
  • Heavy and thick
  • Design line starting to become boring
  • Limited slow-motion capability and camera interface
  • Low light performance of the camera
  • High price
  • Screen body ratio

The price of the phone is 3449 TL. In this sense, it is impossible to ignore the fact that it is expensive. Because when you remove the slow mode from the phone, the £ 2600 LG G6 and even the S7 edge still stand there like a door. On the other hand, if we think that the Galaxy S8 is $ 3339, we think that the work of XZ Premium is obviously a bit difficult. The HTC U11 and S8 + are also priced at around £ 3,600, putting them in the pot. In this sense the choice is yours, of course; but in our opinion the price of the XZ Premium has to be reduced considerably. It may be competitive then, but it’s a bit tricky.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is especially favored by tight Sony fans.

We have thoroughly tested the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, which is Sony’s top-of-the-line smartphone

Sony continues to use angular lines that we are familiar with from the Z series, although the X series. We also see the effects of this on our Xperia XZ Premium. In fact, Sony is particularly sharp in the new model, especially in the corner. Yes, there are a lot of users who likes Sony’s design in general, but so are the ones who are so rude. Obviously, we also see it in Xperia XZ Premium, and for us, Sony should change this design line somewhat.

The body length of the phone is 156 mm and its thickness is 7.9 mm. If we compare this to the Galaxy S8 + from recent phones, we can say that the 159 mm long Galaxy S8 + is narrower than the Xperia XZ Premium and the edges are soft cuts, making the S8 + more polite. The Xperia XZ Premium, on the other hand, is a heavier phone than the S8 +. The weight of the Xperia XZ Premium is exactly 195 grams.

The phone with bright chrome finish looks like a mirror on the back. This is a detail that will appeal to those who want to have a particularly eye-catching phone. But keeping it clean will be much harder than you think; because the phone has a lot of fingerprints. In the meantime, let’s just say that the back of the phone is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 just like the screen.

Sony, of course, also offers waterproofing in our Xperia XZ Premium. With the phone that owns the IP68 certificate, you can easily enter the water. The phone is resistant to fresh water for up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Finally, without closing this section, let’s say that the power key on the right side of the phone still functions as a fingerprint sensor and I’ll go to the screen.

Screen at 4K resolution

Sony Xperia XZ Premium Review

On this phone, Sony also offers us a 4K resolution display. The size of the screen is 5.46 inches. We can say that the pixel density is 807 ppi and the ratio of the screen to the body is the level of frustration. Because it gives us a rate of 68.4 percent. And when you add the virtual buttons on the screen, the image is getting narrower. But the most important factor is that the frames surrounding the screen are too thick. This not only makes the phone bulky, it also brings us a narrower perspective.

Fortunately, the picture quality of the phone is satisfactory. Although the 4K content is limited for now, the 4K display on the screen makes it extremely attractive. You see it especially in games and movies. The availability of Sony HDR support is also an important detail.

Technical staff and performance

Xperia XZ Premium has an Android 7.1 operating system. As a processor, Snapdragon 835 has a total of 8 cores on the phone. The phone, which has 2.45 GHz and 1.9 GHz frequency, 4’er core Kyro chips, has Adreno 540 graphics unit.

The phone has a RAM capacity of 4 GB and a storage capacity of 64 GB. You can increase the memory by 256 GB via microSD card.

An important detail in the technical staff of the phone is the inclusion of Bluetooth 5 support in the Xperia XZ Premium. You can find all about what Bluetooth 5.0 brings to you in our article “What you need to know about Bluetooth 5”. But roughly with this feature of Xperia XZ Premium, we can say that it has a better Bluetooth experience.

Let’s also say that the phone has NFC among the wireless connections and offers 802.11ac Wi-Fi support. Also Cat16 level LTE support is on the phone.

There is no need to say too much about the performance of the Xperia XZ Premium. Because we saw the power of the Snapdragon 835 many times in other models. In this sense, we can say that the phone is paired with Galaxy S8 + and LG G6.

Of course, we also apply our usual synthetic tests for this phone. The score of Xperia XZ Premium from AnTuTu Benchmark is 164923. The Galaxy S8 + from the same test, received 173314 points. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 6 of 2200 TL was reserved with 177319 points.

When we come to Geekbench 4, we see that Xperia XZ Premium collects 1862 points in single core score and 6391 points in multi core. If we compare this immediately, the Galaxy S8 + is 2019 to 6720 points from the same test; We can say that Xiaomi Mi 6 also got 2010 to 6110 points. In this sense, Xperia XZ Premium is behind the other two models as a result of the synthetic test.

Of course, it is not possible to feel this difference in general use of the phone. The phone works fast, smoothly. You experience any difficulties in high-level games or applications.

Battery life

The battery of Xperia XZ Premium is 3230 mAh capacity. Yes, a large capacity; but when we look at it, we see a battery with a capacity of 3600 mAh in the LG G6 and 3500 mAh in the Galaxy S8 +. And these two phones can accommodate a wider battery, almost in the Xperia XZ Premium range at the body, as a lower weight phone. This is an important detail.

So how is the phone’s battery performance? We did a detailed battery test on the Xperia XZ Premium. The phone takes one day off easily with a single charge. With moderate use, it can leave a battery life of between 15 percent and 20 percent the next day.

Also note that we have achieved this result in a few hours of Spotify music streaming, about 40 minutes of video surveillance, a dozen phone calls, active social media usage, messaging, lots of email answering, internet circulation and two games for one hour. If you are one who does not play a lot of games, you will see an occupancy rate of more than 20 percent in the battery when you play this script.

Of course, you should consider taking the Xperia XZ Premium at night, like most other phones, because you will not be able to get enough occupancy around 20 percent the next day.

Of course we always apply our full HD video test for Xperia XZ Premium. In this scenario, where maximum brightness and Wi-Fi were turned on, the phone lost 32 percent at the end of the test. This rate was 20 percent for the Huawei P10 and 11 percent for the Galaxy S8 +.

How long does it take to fill your phone after the battery is completely used up? Let’s say that we measured this time as 3 hours and 3 minutes. Although the phone supports Quick Charge 3.0, it is a bit long.

Xperia XZ Premium was a phone that was often spoken with its camera. That’s why the 960-frame slow-motion mode. We’ll talk about it shortly, first let’s look at the technical structures of the cameras.

The phone features an Exmor RS sensor measuring 19 MP in the rear. Sony, which has not become a trend in the recently popular dual-camera, offers a single camera on the phone. Offering up to 8x zoom capability with f / 2.0 aperture, phase-sensitive laser autofocus, single LED flash and 25mm wide lens, XZ Premium can capture Full HD video in 4K, 60 frames in 30 frames as well as HDR photos.

When we return to the front camera, we find a lens with 13 MP, f / 2.0 diaphragm and 22 mm wide. Full HD video recording free with front camera again.

The quality of the photo shooting is exceedingly successful as the video recording needs to be done on the phone. In automatic mode, you can easily catch beautiful squares. If you want more, the manual mode where you can adjust focus, exposure, white balance and shutter speed gives you more than you want.

If we compare the photo quality to the competition, we can say that you are close to the Galaxy S8 + and HTC U11. However, although the images are vivid and full of color, the Galaxy S8 + is one step ahead.

If we come to the low light part, let’s just say that the phone lacks details compared to the other competitors.

# Do you want to sayVaaay first?

Now let’s come to the video performance of XZ Premium, a 960-frame video that people call # FirstGuideVaaay. Yes, the phone has a super slow-motion application that can shoot at 960 FPS steps. However, with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the Samsung Galaxy S8 + and S8 are recording at 240 FPS in slow motion modes. In this sense, XZ Premium makes a difference; it is true.

This feature, especially if you use it at the right time, can produce impressive results in a serious way. Especially in daylight you can have fun moments; thats right. The camera can capture video at 960 frames per second in HD resolution, whereas in this mode the exposure time per frame is too short and the result is dark and very grainy when the lighting conditions are insufficient. We have tried this feature in both the office environment and the external conditions in the shootings we made; as you see the results.
